Sinomach subsidiary China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE) recently made headway by cooperating with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to conclude the expansion of a BZ fuel oil storage tank plant in Nicaragua and build the first soda ash plant in Kazakhstan.

A signing ceremony of the project completion letter was recently held for the BZ Fuel Oil Storage Tank Plant Expansion Project in the Port of Corinto, Nicaragua, which signified the project was qualified to be handed over to the owner.

The project involved building a new 100,000-barrel oil tank in the plant suitable for the existing control, fire prevention, and oil reception and distribution systems. The new tank will greatly reinforce the local supply of power and fuel.

The project team worked together to ensure the smooth progress and quality of the construction, which established a good reputation of CAMCE for honesty and reliability and added a new achievement to the company in the field of petrochemical engineering.

Participation of Kazakhstan’s first soda ash plant construction

The first soda ash plant in Kazakhstan (Qazaq Soda) is to be built in Sarysu district of Zhambyl region. Completion of the first phase with a capacity of 500,000 tons is planned for 2024. The construction phase is expected to involve about 1,000 people, mainly from the local market. About 300 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs will be created.

CAMCE has cooperated with SemArco, an innovative construction holding company, to create the country’s largest chemical facility, Qazaq Soda. This project marked an important milestone for CAMCE’s business development in the chemical industry in Kazakhstan.

With the implementation of this project, Kazakhstan will be on a par with the world’s leading soda ash producers and suppliers -- China, Russia, Turkey and the United States. It is expected that the country will stop importing soda ash and start exporting.
