The inauguration ceremony was attended by Cameroon's Minister of Energy and Water Resources Gaston Eloundou Essomba and Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon Wang Yingwu, who jointly cut the ribbon. More than 3,000 attendees, including representatives from Cameroonian government departments, the Chinese Embassy, various sectors of Yaoundé and local residents, gathered to celebrate the successful completion of the project.
In his congratulatory speech, Eloundou Essomba highlighted that, with the plant beginning operations, the water needs of 2.5 million residents in Yaoundé and surrounding areas, including the towns of Obala and Batchenga, are now met. He said that the project marks a new era for the region and that China's involvement in infrastructure construction has significantly contributed to the well-being of the Cameroonian people.
Ambassador Wang said that the plant's operation symbolizes the fruitful cooperation between China and Cameroon in infrastructure development and writes a new chapter in building a China-Africa community with a shared future.
As a critical project for improving the livelihoods of Cameroonian citizens, the Sanaga water treatment plant has garnered significant attention from both the Chinese and Cameroonian governments, promoting local employment and economic growth.
CMEC, a subsidiary of Sinomach, participated as a civil construction subcontractor in the project.
